Marhaba and welcome to the program,
I want to start by saying there is nothing more powerful than sport for creating change, and this is something that we are seeing in Saudi Arabia.
The General Sports Authority is driving this change as part of the country’s Vision 2030, with $650m being invested in the Kingdom’s sport sector.
In 2019 the country broke new records for sport in the Middle East, hosting the Italian Super Cup, the World Heavyweight boxing clash between Andy Ruiz Jr and Anthony Joshua, Formula E, Tennis Championships and more.
Whilst more sport and athletes come to Saudi Arabia, the work continues to develop our own promising stars, with football flourishing as the U20s national team won the 2019 Asian Cup.
With the help of Spain, the academy’s aim is to do just that; develop our most promising young footballers through a year-long scholarship at Complex Esportiu Futbol Salou.
The players, each from one of Saudi’s elite football clubs, are all part of this specially created Centre of Excellence which focuses on all elements of player development, mirroring elite academies across Europe.
Through having our young footballing stars in Spain, we hope to see further change and development in the sport across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and further afield, and the General Sports Authority is grateful for the welcome that the people in Salou have given our footballers.
Yours in sport,
Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al Faisal
Chairman, General Sports Authority
